When Paul and Barnabas were in Lystra on the first missionary journey, the people thought they were gods, an honor they emphatically rejected. Our human nature is driven by selfish ambition and seeks to be honored, not just accepted. Like Paul and Barnabas, the only honor we should seek is the honor that God bestows upon us. Even when we are honored by God, we struggle to maintain our humility. The solution to those selfish desires is, in humility, to count others more significant than ourselves.
