Jesus told this parable for the enlightenment of all the people, including us, not just the chief priests and elders. When people feel that they are entitled to more than they have, they will renege on any agreement they have made that limits their entitlement; and they will see any attempt to correct them as unwelcome interference. When we renege on any agreement, we show ourselves to be dishonest, untrustworthy, liars.
